TANK BRIDGELAYER AVLB CHIEFTAIN MK2 (PROTOTYPE)
Chieftain AVLB Mk2 Prototype, entered service November 1968. One of three AVLB prototypes (00FB02, 00FB03, 00FB04). Merlin records service at QMT Bovington Armour Centre from 1978, with ABRO Bovington planned repair 1991, returning to QM(T) Dept Armour Centre March 1999 — last confirmed Merlin movement. No cast flag set. PDF vehicle register notes all three prototypes were used for driver training. Recorded as possible survivor pending physical confirmation at Bovington. Photographed during recovery operation at Tank Museum Bovington, January/February 2021. Tank Museum has been reviewing its Chieftain collection (23 vehicles) for significance, with some being released to other collections or scrapped for parts. Scrapping of hull reported but unconfirmed — status updated to possible survivor pending further information.
