Chieftain AVLB (Tank Bridgelayer) — note Merlin description records as ARMOURED VEH ROYAL ENGINEERS CHIEFTAIN but vehicle is visually confirmed as an AVLB in photographs. Contract KL/A/0208 (Vickers Armstrong built, Elswick, Newcastle), entered service 1 November 1966. Extensive engineer unit service history including 26 ENGR REGT — 8 ARMD ENGR SQN and 22 ENGR REGT. Deployed operationally on Op OCULUS (Kosovo/Balkans) September 1998. Loaned to Vickers Defence Systems March 1992-February 1993, likely trials or upgrade work. Last Merlin movement to SEME, Bordon, January 2007 (received March 2007) — same transfer batch as 00EB35. Photographed on SEME training area at Bordon in deteriorated condition; current location unconfirmed. May have relocated to Lyneham DSEME when SEME moved from Bordon circa 2015-2017. No cast flag set in Merlin. Recorded as possible survivor pending confirmation of current whereabouts.
